It’s the World Cup!


The 2010 World Cup is in Africa for the first time. It’s in South Africa. The people of South Africa are very happy. They love football.

South African football fans wear green and gold. They call their team ‘Bafana Bafana’. It means ‘The Boys.’ They make a lot of noise at football matches. They have ‘vuvuzelas’ – a trumpet.

Today it’s the opening show at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg. Eighty-five thousand people come to the stadium. Five hundred million people all over the world watch it on TV.
The 2010 World Cup in numbers:

* There are 64 football matches.
* There are 32 teams.
* There are 10 stadiums.
* But there is only one prize – the World Cup!
